Medical Science Liaison

Major Responsibilities:

  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of therapeutic area, including related disease states and co-morbid medical conditions
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of UCB products, competitive products, and other therapeutic options within relevant disease states
  • Reviews and critiques scientific publications
  • Collects, analyzes, and communicates fair-balanced information concerning therapeutic area, treatment options, emerging standards of care, and competitive intelligence
  • Addresses medical information inquiries  
  • Provides effective clinical presentations to internal and external audiences and tailors presentations to meet specific audience needs 
  • Conducts local roundtables and education programs that aim to satisfy the specific needs of individual KOLs and Institutions
  • Serves as a scientific resource at key medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, clinical investigator meetings, internal meetings, and patient advocacy group meetings.
  • Identifies national, regional, and local Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs)
  • Establishes and develops synergistic relationships with KOLs to expand research, advisory, and educational partnership opportunities
  • Assures thoughtful exchange of current medical information related to UCB products and therapeutic areas of clinical development with KOLs
  • Provides educational and scientific support to KOLs as needed
  • Identifies and facilitates local networking opportunities between KOLs and internal and external colleagues
  • Explores novel educational opportunities with healthcare associations and ancillary healthcare professionals
  • Understands the impact of UCB strategies upon day to day activities
  • Generates thoughtful and appropriate Medical Affairs plans to maximize collaborative opportunities and to provide superior service for every KOL and institution
  • Communicates and coordinates scientific opportunities with other UCB field based and internal colleagues
  • Evaluates each KOL individually to assure appropriate level of support
  • Assesses feasibility, facilitates submission, and serves as the primary liaison between UCB and investigator, for unsolicited Investigator-Initiated Studies (IISs) from inception to publication
  • Assists in the identification of potential sites for UCB-sponsored clinical research programs and serves as a field-based scientist to support clinical trial programs as needed
  • Serves as scientific resource at investigator meetings as needed
  • Sales
  • Participates in scientific and medical training of Sales colleagues
  • Responds to complex scientific inquiries from the field
  • Trains and updates physicians for the Speaker’s Bureau
  • Marketing
  • Provides scientific and medical support for internal and external meetings and projects as needed
  • Managed Markets
  • Provides relevant clinical presentations to P&T committee members, medical directors, and other key decisions makers as appropriate
  • Participates in scientific and medical training of Managed Markets colleagues
  • Medical Information
  • Provides field updates regarding topics of interest for creation and/or updating of Standard Response Letters
  • Clinical Development
  • Identify and support Phase II-IV sites as required
  • Actively participates in team calls and meetings
  • Solicits and shares best practices to enhance team productivity
  • Utilizes UCB Resources effectively (such as travel planning and expense reporting)
  • Checks and responds to voicemail and email messages in a timely manner
  • Submits and maintains reports on a timely basis
  • Complies at all times with UCB SOPs, compliance policies, and internal and external guidelines
  • Serves as a resource to ensure that Adverse Events (AEs) are reported in accordance with our pharmacovigilance SOPs
  • Ensures that questions related to AEs and safety are accurately addressed both internally and externally

 

 

Requirement:

  • PharmD, PhD, or MD/DO required
  • Minimum of 1 year MSL or industry–related experience strongly preferred
  • Relevant therapeutic and clinical experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts in 1:1 and group settings
  • Ability to actively listen and process information to identify opportunities
  • Business acumen with a basic understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare arena
  • Ability to take initiative and work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong multi-tasking, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively balance field time and administrative duties
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, and web-based applications
